This month, Sonance Cares is proud to partner with the Orange County Bird of Prey Center in a $10,000 matching campaign to help build a new flight enclosure for birds recovering from injury.
For nearly four decades, the Orange County Bird of Prey Center has rescued, rehabilitated, and released sick, injured, and orphaned raptors including hawks, owls, falcons, eagles, and other birds of prey. Operated almost entirely by dedicated volunteers, the organization provides specialized medical care while educating the community about the vital role these incredible birds play in our ecosystem.
Certain birds that are deemed non-releasable are trained to work in wildlife education. All of OC Bird of Prey Center’s education and outreach aim to help the public better understand the roles these birds play in the wild, the challenges they face, and what we all can do to help protect them. In 2025, OC Bird of Prey Center’s staff and volunteers engaged with more than 18,000 individuals at schools, parks, nature centers, and other venues.
Building a flight enclosure is one of the most important steps in a bird’s rehabilitation. Before returning to the wild, recovering raptors must rebuild their strength, endurance, and flying skills in a safe environment that closely mimics their natural habitat. This new enclosure will provide birds with the space they need to regain the confidence and fitness required for a successful release back into the wild.
